On October 18, the American rapper Nelly’s X (twitter) account was compromised, with the hacker changing his profile and sending phishing links to subscribers.
The hacker hijacked Nelly’s account and impersonated a representative of Scam Sniffer, a web3 security organization. Later, the hacker sent messages to users on X in order to trick them into visiting a phishing website.
Onchain analyst ZachXBT revealed that Nelly’s Twitter account has been compromised, citing the altered profile, which has since been deleted or disabled from the social media network.
Scam Sniffer posted that it is not affiliated with them and recommended users to visit its website in such cases.
Users were instructed to verify their wallet approval compromises, which could be easily trusted because the Scam Sniffer team appears to be participating in the problem. This was essentially a scheme to steal money by convincing consumers to sign fraudulent transactions.
