On October 19, Aptos, the layer 1 blockchain, experienced a massive network outage lasting more than five hours. Wu Blockchainn, a blockchain analyst, stated that Aptos had been unavailable for more than five hours. According to Aptos blockchain explorer data, the network ceased producing blocks at a height of 104,621,314.
The outage occurred exactly one year after the introduction of Aptos mainnet on October 18, 2022. While the outage happened, the Aptos community was celebrating its first anniversary with a mass-graffiti painting.
Aptos stated that a large transaction order on this anniversary occasion may have compromised its capacity, causing the network to fall offline for several hours.
The issue has been resolved, and the network is now operational.
Aptos has grown dramatically in the year after its mainnet debut, with over 301 million transactions executed. According to AptoScan data, it has a current market valuation of more than $1.2 billion.
