The major Chinese asset management Harvest Fund Management has reportedly filed to the local financial regulator for permission to start a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) through its Hong Kong unit.

Tencent News reports that Harvest plans to launch the first Bitcoin ETF in the city soon after the Lunar New Year vacation, which falls on February 10 this year.

The COO of HashKey, a cryptocurrency exchange in Hong Kong, Livio Weng, stated earlier this month that about ten fund providers are considering the potential of launching spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in Hong Kong.

A spot Bitcoin ETF is scheduled to debut in the first quarter of this year, according to Venture Smart Financial Holdings Ltd. Regarding this development, neither Harvest nor the Securities and Futures Commission have yet to comment.
